FreeVerse

FreeVerse

FreeVerse Collective is committed to building spaces that center creativity, dialogue, and social connection. With Spotlight Sessions, we're taking that vision even further.

Where Art + Activism meet to Liberate Us.

FreeVerse is a revolutionary open mic series and cultural platform committed to amplifying radical imagination through art, truth-telling, and collective liberation. Rooted in Boston and resonating far beyond, Free Verse exists to uplift the voices too often left out; BIPOC youth, LGBTQ+ creatives, and emerging artists navigating systemic barriers in the arts.

We cultivate inclusive, intergenerational spaces where poetry, music, movement, and visual art become tools for healing, resistance, and transformation. Through curated performances, open mics, mentorship, and national cultural exchange, Free Verse empowers artists to share boldly, build community, and expand their creative reach across cities, borders, and boundaries.

Upcoming Events

Our January edition features Lisa Marie Lovett, a spoken-word poet, speaker, and author whose Southern-soulful cadence and “hug-like” delivery invite audiences into stories of love, grief, faith, womanhood, boundaries, and restoration. As the founder of Seasoned Dialogue, Lisa Marie’s work is intentionally crafted like a nourishing meal. Interactive, memorable, and deeply affirming. Her performances create safe spaces where hearts can exhale and healing can begin.

Joining her is Youth Feature Ajary, an alternative artist and modern-day griot whose soundscape blends story, samples, and soul. Beyond music, Ajary is a mentor, organizer, and entrepreneur, serving as CEO of ETHEREAL VISIONS and co-founder of 5THOU, an Asset-Based Community Development firm. His work reflects life’s simple truths while empowering others through art and leadership.

The evening also includes an open mic, welcoming new and returning voices to the FreeVerse stage.

Whether you come to perform, listen, or simply be present, FreeVerse is a space to arrive as you are.

Our February edition features Jovan McKoy (ThePoetBul), a spoken-word poet and visual artist based in West Philadelphia whose work blends honesty, confidence, and lived experience. Writing since the age of 17, Jovan’s poetry explores love, self-reflection, ambition, and vulnerability with intention and heart. As the host of House of Poets Entertainment and the author of Journal Entry and Poems by the Dating Pool, his performances invite audiences into spaces of truth, growth, and fearless expression.

Joining him is Youth Feature JASSIEL, a Roxbury/Dorchester-based artist known for blending hip-hop, R&B, and genre-bending soundscapes into music that refuses to stay in one lane. Through atmospheric synths, soulful samples, melodic vocals, and sharp bars, JASSIEL transforms emotion into art—creating immersive worlds that offer release, reflection, and self-definition.

The evening also includes an open mic, welcoming new and returning voices to the FreeVerse stage.
